54 Sqdn A Flight AAR: Offensive Line Patrol (Zone C) 18 APR

Sir:

I escorted 2Lt. Kane-Brittain on a low-level operation to the lines southwest of Cambrai to look for ground targets. Two goods trains and a supply convoy were attacked, with hits observed on the convoy and one of the trains. I experienced serious engine trouble as I began to escort Kane-Brittain back to Corbie, so instead, he escorted me to the South Advanced Landing Field. I landed safely, and Kane-Brittain has reported his safe arrival at Corbie. No enemy aircraft were encountered by either of us at any time.

The Major, of course, is trying to leave the impression that he only flew with Kane-Brittain up to the lines, waited for him to conduct the operation in enemy territory, and rejoined him when he returned to Allied airspace. He can't come out and say that, though, because it would be a lie, as the mechanics who patched the holes in his wings are fully aware.
